Welcome to the Cedar Ridge International Baccalaureate (IB) Program!

The International Baccalaureate Program, or IB, is a rigorous two-year college preparatory program designed for high school students in the 11th and 12th grade. The IB learner is at the core of everything we do - that's why our program is based on a two year growth model. Upon completion of the program, IB graduates will leave CRHS with two diplomas: a NC High School Diploma and an internationally recognized International Baccalaureate Diploma.

IB is a fully integrated program of study which includes the IB core: the extended essay (4,000 work independent research project), Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) and The Theory of Knowledge.

The Cedar Ridge IB (CRIB) program is a great place for students who want to be challenged and work in a highly collaborative cohort! There are many benefits of joining this program including but not limited to:

  • Improved time management and prioritization skills
  • Strong, collegiate-level writing skills
  • Improvement and a newfound confidence with public speaking skills
  • Critical thinking skills across multiple subjects

International Baccalaureate vs. Advanced Placement

What is the difference between the IB Program and Advance Placement (AP)?

International Baccalaureate

  • Collaborative and team-taught
  • Classes run year-long (A Day/B Day) and are taught over two years
  • Courses award credit based on a holistic model and incorporate a blend of internal assessments (completed with a teacher's guidance and scored by a CRHS IB teacher, then moderated by IB examiners) and external assessments (exams at the end of senior year)

Advanced Placement

  • AP classes typically last one to two semesters
  • Designed to get students accustomed to the rigor and pace of college courses
  • Courses focused on a particular subject
  • Culminate in students taking a single timed exam for credit in May
  • AP exams consist of multiple choice and open-ended questions/essays
